JEAN PAUL GAULTIER
Silk and Rayon Print Skirt (multi)
Crafted from beautiful brocade and silk, this dressy skirt is a great illustration of Gaultier’s passion for art, and painting in particular. The opulent trim on the hem clearly recalls Gustav Klimt’s lavish murals, while the female figure depicted on the main panel brings Paul Gauguin’s muses to mind, as well as the works of Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. The French designer did, in fact, dedicate an entire collection to Kahlo’s work and personal style, underlining his deep interest in powerful -and creatively singular- female voices.
